A 30-YEAR-OLD Brighouse man who kicked his partner in the face has avoided an immediate prison sentence.

Recorder Andrew Dallas told Darren Jennings he could have no complaints if he was locked up straight away for the assault on Charlene McLean, but he said he was just persuaded to suspend the jail term.

Jennings, of East Mount Close, pleaded guilty to the assault charge in August and Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that he had previous convictions for violence.

Recorder Dallas said the couple, who no longer live together, had had a stormy relationship by all accounts and the assault took place after they had both been drinking.

He accepted that the injuries were fortunately not that serious, but he said Jennings’ behaviour was inexcusable and very dangerous.

The judge said Jennings’ nine-month prison sentence could be suspended for two years and ordered him to do 100 hours unpaid work.

Jennings will also have to take part in the integrated domestic abuse programme as part of a two-year supervision requirement.
