A MAN has appeared in court accused of mistreating two German Shepherd dogs.

Paul Cawthra, of Victoria Road in Brighouse, was at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 38-year-old is accused of not providing the animals with a suitable diet and failing to ensure they were in a suitable environment.

He faces a further charge of not protecting one of the dogs from pain and suffering after it contracted conjunctivitis.

The three charges are dated between May 9 and June 9 this year at Brighouse.

Cawthra will next be before Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court on February 8 for a trial.

The trial is expected to last for two days.
