THE main Post Office in Brighouse could soon be on the move – eight doors away.
But there will be a six-week public consultation before any decision is made to move the branch.
The current Post Office branch is at Unit 9, Wellington Arcade, and postal chiefs are looking at moving it to become part of a card and stationery store at Unit 1 Wellington Arcade – about 150 meters away, or 164 yards.
If it goes ahead the move will take place during March 2013.
Adrian Wales, Post Office regional network manager for Central England, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Brighouse and we are confident that the new branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches – about half the Post Office network – converting to new-style branches.
“The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The new unit, currently advertised as ‘to let’ is offered online at £15,000 rent per annum.
The proposed new Brighouse Post Office would open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5.30pm – five hours more than the current Post Office’s opening times, which is currently closed on Saturday afternoons.
The Post Office wants to hear feedback from Brighouse residents and those who use the Post Office about the proposal.
A consultation is open until January 28 via the email address at firstname.lastname@example.org, the Customer Helpline 08457 22 33 44 or Textphone 08457 22 33 55.
