BRASS band champions Brighouse and Rastrick have held on to their regional crown.

The current National Champion brass band retained the Yorkshire Championship crown for the second consecutive year after a performance led by their conductor, David King.

The championships were held at St George’s Hall in Bradford.

The band played Paganini Variations to scoop top marks from the judges. And the judges praised some superb solo contributions, most notably from new girl Lucy Murphy on Flugel horn and Chris Gomersall on trombone, with Chris picking up the Best Instrumentalist award for his efforts.

The win secures the band a place at the National Championship Finals held at the Royal Albert Hall in October, along with fellow pre-qualifier Rothwell Temperance, Hepworth and Carlton Main Frickley. But local rivals Black Dyke and Grimethorpe have not earned a place.
