A MARKET day aimed at promoting the best local produce has won a top award.

Brighouse held its third Totally Local market on Saturday and attracted thousands of shoppers to the market day, which took over the whole town centre.

And organisers were presented with an award for their hardwork – they were awarded the best speciality street market in the UK by the National Association of British Market Authorities.

On the day shoppers indulged in cheese from Copley, meat from Meltham and bread from Brighouse.

One of the organisers, Lesley Adams, of Simply Flowers in Brighouse, said: “We have achieved so much in such a short space of time and our Totally Locally market has become synonymous with offering visitors the chance to buy some great quality local produce.”

The aim of the market day is to encourage shoppers to buy local – with produce coming from their own doorstep.
