A student suffered a fatal head injury in a fall following a night out, an inquest was told.

Patricio Kochmann was found unconscious in the entrance to an alleyway, off Wakefield Road, Moldgreen, in the early hours of April 17, Huddersfield Coroner’s Court heard.

Mr Kochmann, 20, of Brockholes, suffered a fractured skull and died at Leeds General Infirmary, on April 30, from a brain haemorrhage.

But a police investigation concluded there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Kochmann’s death.

The inquest heard Mr Kochmann, known as Pato, had been celebrating a friend’s birthday in Huddersfield town centre but the friends had split up in a nightclub.

Mr Kochmann was unsteady on his feet when he was captured on CCTV making his way out of the town centre in the small hours of April 17.

He was last seen on a takeaway’s CCTV, a short distance from where he was found unresponsive by a taxi driver.

Mr Kochmann was likely to have drunk the equivalent of five pints of beer, according to a test carried out in hospital following the fall.

His condition was stabilised but on April 26 doctors concluded Mr Kochmann’s injury was fatal and switched him onto palliative care.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, Coroner Mary Burke, said: “I am satisfied that there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

“He has fallen and we can never be absolutely sure (how), but he was unsteady on his feet and I think the likely explanation is he has stumbled, he has fallen or he has tripped and has hit his head and unfortunately, it has had catastrophic consequences.”
