a PENSIONER called police and threatened to set fire to himself and his home.
Drunk Bryn Doel, 71, also blamed them for ruining his life during the early hours call.
He pleaded guilty to using a public communication network to send an offensive message. Doel, of Cliff Court in Liversedge, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court just a month after receiving a community order for similar offending.
The OAP had plagued police with 250 nuisance calls, several of which accused them of letting terrorists and murderers stay in the country.
He made the latest call from his home early on Sunday morning, the Huddersfield court heard.
Doel dialled the 101 police non-emergency number and complained about a letter he had received from bailiffs over his unpaid court fines.
Shamaila Qureshi, prosecuting, said: “Mr Doel blamed police for ruining his life and then stated he was in possession of two gallons of petrol.
“He said his intention was to pour the petrol on himself and his property and set it alight.”
Police attended and arrested Doel, who had drunk a bottle of whisky and claimed that he had no recollection of the incident.
Andrew Stewardson , mitigating, told magistrates that Doel now understood that it was not appropriate to contact police to complain.
He added: “I accept that public servants don’t like their time wasted but he’s not ringing 999 and endangering lives.
“It was a moment of foolishness but he does understand that this has to stop.”
Magistrates handed Doel a four-week prison sentence, suspended for a year.
He also has to pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge.
