A HEAD teacher vowed today: We will not let the vandals win.
Mrs Sarah Armitage hit out after vandals wrecked new play equipment at Greenside Infant School, Almondbury - hours before the children got the chance to play on it.
The hooligans clambered all over the climbing equipment and smashed walk boards only hours after contractors had finished putting it in place.
Youngsters at the school turned up yesterday to be told the sad news that the new play equipment was out of action.
It is not the first problem with vandals at the school. Windows have been broken and graffiti scrawled on the walls.
But Mrs Armitage said: "We cannot let them win. There is an element in Almondbury who seem intent on causing problems with vandalism.
"It is heartbreaking for the children as we told them on Wednesday that they would be able to use the climbing frame for the first time on Thursday.
"Kirklees Council have met part of the costs with the rest coming from school funds. We will have to decide whether to get it repaired but my view is that we must or the vandals have won."
Police are investigating the incident.
