AN ‘incorrigible’ burglar caged for an audacious house raid in which he took a luxury car after snatching keys through a letterbox, has had his sentence backed by top judges.

Ryan Nicholas Jackson, 30, received a total sentence of six years and 10 months at Leeds Crown Court last December after admitting burglary and theft.

London’s Appeal Court heard how Jackson and an accomplice targeted a luxury home in All Saints Close, Clayton West, in November last year, snatching a top-end Audi from the driveway.

The householder was woken by the sound of revving engines and looked helplessly from an upper window as the car sped off down the road.

Police established that Jackson and his accomplice gained entry by reaching through the letterbox and removing the keys.

The judge said: “The car was taken – and also a computer, iPod and satnav. The police suspected that the burglary had Jackson’s hallmarks.”

When they paid a visit to Jackson’s home they discovered the stolen Audi two streets away.

Jackson, of Thorncliffe Road, Staincliffe, Batley, was also sentenced over a December 2012 offence – also committed in Huddersfield – in which he gained entry to a house using a mould grip to break the lock on the door.

A BMW and an Audi were taken in that raid, the court heard.

Lord Justice Pitchford, sitting with Mr Justice Roderick Evans and Mr Justice Turner, said Jackson had a “very bad record”.

He said: “The sentence for burglary was not manifestly excessive.”
