SCHOOLS across Huddersfield have taken a battering from burglars this year.

There have been 80 recorded crimes, with some schools being targeted several times.

The intruders have mainly been stealing computers.

Police urge people who live near schools to be extra-vigilant and call them if they see anything suspicious.

Huddersfield police's Pc Dave McSweeney said: "Many schools have alarm systems and other security measures. But break-ins at educational premises have been a problem.

"We would urge people who live near schools, or pass them regularly, to keep a lookout for anyone acting suspiciously.

"If they see anything, note a description of the suspects and any vehicles, then phone us.

"Schools are particularly vulnerable during the long summer holidays and police patrols will be stepped up."

Suspects have been arrested recently.
