A BURGLARY in Denby Dale has sparked a police warning.

Between 3pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday a man sneaked into a house on Wakefield Road through an unsecured back door and stole a handbag.

A neighbour who saw him approaching the house described him as a "good looking" white man, aged 16 to 20, with fawn, curly hair.

He was about 5ft 6in tall and slim build and wore a black or blue anorak.

Acting Sgt Jim Carter said: "People in rural areas, which are usually law-abiding, may not be as security conscious as people in urban areas.

"But they should be aware that criminals have access to motor vehicles and will access these outlying areas just as readily as urban districts."

Anyone with information about the burglary should contact acting Sgt Carter on 01484 436716.
