ASPLEY businesses were waterlogged this morning after a water main burst in Wakefield Road.

Two lanes of traffic were out of action as water flowed downhill from the burst near Silver Street and collected outside Williamson's newsagents.

The shop is run by Mohammed Saddique and his wife Neelam.

Mr Saddique normally opens the shop at 6am but could not open up until 8.30am.

He said: "It is a mess inside.

"The cellar was full of water and it was about an inch deep inside the shop.

"I have lost trade but I am not sure how much."

A similar burst happened in April 2000.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Water said the burst was found and stopped at 8am, but that repairs would take all day to complete.
