A BUS company wants to recruit passengers to act as undercover inspectors and put its services to the test.

Arriva Yorkshire, which operates routes in Huddersfield, is offering free travel to people who take up the role.

Managing director Ken Clarke explained: "The bus inspectors will act like our own team of mystery shoppers by scoring each journey for factors such as cleanlin- ess, seat comfort and luggage space.

"In return for giving us their opinions they will receive free travel on Arriva buses for one week."

Mr Clarke said his company had made a significant investment in new buses - but things could always be improved.

"Appointing bus inspectors seems like the perfect way of listening to our customers' views," he said.

The move is part of Arriva's Going Your Way campaign to highlight alternatives to car travel.

The bus operator plans to deliver information and vouchers to homes in Huddersfield soon.
