CAPTAINS of industry are being given the opportunity to drive growth and jobs in the region.

The Leeds City Region, a collaboration of 11 local authorities including all five West Yorkshire councils, is seeking business leaders to join its board and panels.

They will help steer the UK’s largest economy and population centre outside London.

Chief executives, directors and entrepreneurs are sought for roles at the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the Green Economy Panel, which aims to drive down carbon emissions.

Clr Tim Swift, leader of Calderdale Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local business leaders to raise the profile of Calderdale in the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, and to help shape economic development in the area.”

The current terms of appointment of board members expire at the end of March 2013.

Current chair, Neil McLean, will be stepping down from the role after two years.

He said: “I am immensely proud of the progress the Leeds City Region LEP has made.

“We have real momentum, have developed a strategic economic plan for the city region, helped to secure more than £90m for our businesses from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, and successfully taken our £36m Growing Places Fund to market.”

Business leaders and entrepreneurs across Leeds City Region have until Friday February 15 to express their interest in joining the board. Visit www.leedscityregion.gov.uk for details.
