Police are hunting four men who robbed a wealthy businessman in his home on Monday night.

The men, clad in balaclavas, physically attacked the 51-year-old who has not been named after walking into his home at 10.50pm on Penistone Road, Shelley .

Detective Inspector Andy Leonard said: “The victim suffered facial injuries in the attack and was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment but he has now been discharged.

“We believe it was a targeted attack and members of the public should not be overly concerned.”

He said a significant amount of cash was stolen as well as some sporting memorabilia.

Mr Leonard added: “We were alerted after one of his dogs was found in the road and a member of the public went into his house and raised the alarm.”

Anyone who has information about the robbery should phone 101 and ask for DS Gittens.
