Firefighters at Rastrick Fire Station had a busy time last night.

They were called out to three incidents, none of them serious.

The first was at 8.20pm after a car crashed into railings at Thornton Square, Brighouse. It was originally thought that the car was on fire, although this was not the case.

The driver was not at the scene and the crew stayed until the police arrived.

Ninety minutes later they were called out to Brighouse Waste Water Treatment Works when a faulty sludge transfer pump set on fire.

Sewage works staff put out the fire with an extinguisher. The fire crew isolated the electricity supply to the large pump and an engineer was called.

Just after 2am, they received their third call of the night after somebody had set a bonfire alight on playing fields at Southowram.

No casualties were reported at any incident.
