A NEW temporary boss has been appointed to a top position.

Gordon Mitchell has been named as Calderdale Council’s interim chief executive – subject to approval at a meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Mitchell is a former chief executive of Nottingham City Council and Bracknell Forest Borough Council.

He is currently working with the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (Solace), undertaking assignments in performance improvement, changing organisations and efficiency developments.

Mr Mitchell will serve as interim chief executive in Calderdale until a permanent appointment is made in the autumn.

His appointment follows the departure of Owen Williams, who left the council to become chief executive of the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Mitchell said: “Calderdale has a significant agenda at this time and I am looking forward to working with the council to push this forward over the next six months or so.”

Calderdale Council leader Clr Janet Battye, said: “Gordon brings an impressive range of skills and I am pleased to recommend his appointment”.
