A COUNCIL leader has taken one of the top jobs on a regional growth body.

Calderdale Council’s leader, Clr Janet Battye, was elected the deputy chairman of Leeds City Region.

She will deputise for Clr Peter Box, the Wakefield-based chairman of the committee.

A spokeswoman for the Leeds City Region said there is no allowance for the role but members may claim travel expenses from their own authority.

Clr Battye said: “I will be pleased to take this role and to use it to raise the profile of Calderdale. The Leeds City Region is important to local people and businesses because of its strategic planning role and its ability to take a leading role in promoting and driving economic development through the Local Enterprise Partnership.”

The Leeds City Region Partnership brings together the 11 local authorities of Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield and York, with North Yorkshire County Council.
