RESIDENTS will be asked if they want their village to become a 20mph zone.

Calderdale Council is considering reducing the limit in Stainland to reduce accidents.

Residents will be consulted on the plan next month.

The council’s Cabinet member for the environment, Clr Barry Collins, said: “The decision reflects concerns being put forward by local people about traffic speeds in residential areas and around local schools. We want all residents to get involved and tell us what they want for their area.

“The aim is to encourage slower speeds in Stainland and, in turn, reduce the number and severity of injuries being sustained by the more vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, cyclists and motorbike riders.”
