CALDERDALE Council’s Cabinet will next week consider a recommendation to award the contract for Local Healthwatch to Voluntary Action Calderdale.

Healthwatch is a new consumer champion for health and social care and provides patients and service users with a stronger voice to influence how local services are provided.

It will help to shape the planning of health and social care services and help users make choices about the health and social care they need.

Brought about by the Health and Social Care Act 2012, Healthwatch is a local forum to replace Local Involvement Networks which cease in April 2013. Awarding the contract now will ensure enough time to hand over before the new contract starts.

The Cabinet will discuss the issue on Monday.
