A CALENDAR featuring West Yorkshire firefighters has raised £7,000 for charities.

The proceeds from the Red Hot Dates 2006 calendar will be shared between the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, which wants to build a hospice in Kirklees or Calderdale, and the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

More than 3,000 copies of the calendar, featuring crews from Bradford, were sold.

The calendar showed firefighters training for river rescues, house fires, road accidents and casualty care. Each month had a specific fire prevention message.

A calendar is being planned for 2007, but this time will feature firefighters from across West Yorkshire.

Watch Manager Dominic Furby - who organised this year's calendar - said: "It's been a very successful project and we've managed to make enough from sales to provide these worthwhile causes with several thousand pounds each.

"We made sure the fire safety messages were printed on every month. This, too, has helped the fire service's campaign to make West Yorkshire a safer place."

Businesses are urged to come forward to sponsor each of the 12 months for next year's calendar or give goods for a charity dinner and auction in October, when the calendar will be unveiled.

The two charities to benefit from the 2007 calendar will be the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.
