The breathtaking views seen every day through the eyes of a Huddersfield shepherdess will be enjoyed by everyone when she releases her first calendar next year.

Former Newsome resident turned mother of the hills Amanda Owen will give viewers a picture-postcard insight into her new rural life by showcasing the joys and challenges for her family who live in one of the highest and most remote places in England.

The 39-year-old, who now lives in Ravenseat – a 2,000 acre sheep hill farm in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales – is an avid photographer and will release her calendar with Graffeg Publishing on September 1.

It is the latest project for the happy mother-of-seven who shared the details of her extraordinary life through her recently released autobiography, The Yorkshire Shepherdess.

Amanda, said: “Life at Ravenseat is not easy with the beautiful but bleak, harsher months of winter, but it is balanced by the joys of spring and early summer with lambs being born and the birds returning.”

The calendar features iconic views that highlight the role the landscape has upon her family’s work of farming the land and offers a rare glimpse of a lifestyle that is ruled by the seasons and animals, not by technology.

It also includes footnotes and key calendar dates that demonstrate the different challenges they face throughout the year.

Amanda and her family found her way into the nation’s hearts when they appeared on three series of ITV1’s The Dales which attracted around 4 million viewers per show.

She has since become a big hit on social media site, Twitter, where she posts regular updates about life on the farm.

Amanda said: “I am absolutely delighted and feel honoured to be given the opportunity to show people a glimpse of my life as a hill shepherdess in this remote, but beautiful part of the world that I love.”

Amanda left Huddersfield as a teenager for a farming life firstly in the Lake District now in the Yorkshire Dales where she has combined a hard life on the farm with raising seven youngsters, aged from 11 months to 13. She gave birth to three of them in a lay-by due to living two hours from the nearest hospital.
