HUDDERSFIELD pensioners are being urged to apply now to ensure they get fuel payments this winter.
Pensions minister Malcolm Wicks says people over 60 who have not received the Government payments before should apply now.
People whose applications are received by September 19 will get their payments in time for Christmas.
Pensioners claiming a state pension or social security benefits - excluding council tax, housing and child benefit - will automatically receive their payments.
People who have previously received a winter fuel payment will get theirs automatically.
The payments are worth £4 per week.
That works out at £200 per household, but this year householders 80 and over will get an extra £100.
To claim, call 08459 15 15 15, visit www.the pensionservice.gov.uk or tear off coupons in national newspaper adverts.
Social security offices, post offices and welfare groups have information.
