A TORY councillor is calling for the next meeting of Kirklees Council to be postponed - because it is in the school holidays.
Clr Martyn Bolt said he realised he was in the minority of councillors with children at school, but that was no reason to ignore the holidays.
The next meeting of the full council is on October 23 in the middle of half-term break.
Clr Bolt said: "We are constantly hearing about how Kirklees strives to consider all sections of the community.
"Yet here they are, on the one hand asking parents not to take children out of school during term time and on the other arranging an important meeting part way through the half term break. It is stupid."
Clr Bolt, 45, who represents Mirfield, has three children at schools in the area.
"It is important for a family to spend time together.
"Running my own business and being an active councillor takes me away a lot.
"I try and make sure we see each other in the holidays," he said.
Tony Elson, the council's chief executive, said:
"The council agrees the dates of its meetings at the beginning of the year and councillors who work often arrange to have time off work on those days, so cancelling meetings often causes as many problems as it solves."
