SCHOOLCHILDREN across Kirklees have been invited to design a logo to promote the Huddersfield Family Birth Centre.

The Birth Centre opens at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) next month.

It aims to offer a friendly, family environment for women with uncomplicated pregnancies who do not want to give birth at home or in a high-tech hospital ward.

The Centre has six birth rooms, a birth pool, communal dining and accommodation for dads-to-be.

The competition is open to children aged five to 11 with a £25 book prize for the winner and £100 for the winner’s school.

Last year a competition was held to choose the ward’s name.

HRI consultant midwife Helen Shallow said:“Children have a wonderful way of capturing the world around them and we are really looking forward to receiving their entries.

“From the outset we have involved the community in the development of the birth centre.”
