CHILDREN and their parents are being urged to think beyond the chicken nugget.
British Food Fortnight next month will ask Yorkshire folk to ditch processed food in favour of fresh, local produce.
The event, running from Saturday September 18, is aimed particularly at youngsters.
Schools have been encouraged to hold special food events.
It is hoped students will carry on eating healthily rather than munching on lunches of pizza and chips.
Caroline Welbourn of the Countryside Agency said: "Lack of food awareness among children is one of the biggest social issues in Britain today and British Food Fortnight offers the opportunity to make in-roads in this area."
Producers, shopkeepers, restaurants and pubs are all being encouraged to get involved by offering quality fresh regional produce on children's menus.
