A campaign has pleaded that more people become foster carers to plug a national shortage.

A total of 610 children currently in care in Kirklees are in need of a new home.

Fostering Solutions ,who is behind the drive, said that the figures could get even higher if recent rises continue.

Since 2010 7% more children now need foster families after being removed from unstable homes.

Gareth Walton, operations director for Fostering Solutions, said: “We need more foster carers to come forward.

“Becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding steps you can take – these children are likely to have had a challenging start to their lives and you can be the person who makes the priceless difference to their life by offering them a home and care.”
