CAMPAIGNERS protested against the closure of an adult education centre last night.

Kirklees College plans to shut Holmfirth Adult Education Centre next month as part of a £3m cuts programme.

More than 20 people gathered at Holmfirth Civic Hall last night for a public meeting to oppose the closure.

Organiser Roger Keely told the meeting: “We have to have a campaign that hurts them. We’ve got to have numbers that make their lives uncomfortable.”

A second public meeting will take place at the adult education centre on Huddersfield Road from 3pm to 5pm on Friday.

Senior Kirklees College managers will attend the meeting, as will Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney.
