Campaigners took to the streets of Huddersfield on Saturday to protest over “creeping privatisation” of the NHS.

Members of Huddersfield Keep Our NHS Public marched through the town centre carrying a mock coffin labelled “66 years old. Too young to die.”

Around 60 protesters met up at the Market Cross before stopping outside Specsavers, Sainsbury’s Boots Opticians and Virgin Media, companies they claim have benefited from NHS contracts.

Paul Cooney, secretary of the group, said: “We are concerned about the creeping privatisation of the NHS and this was a novel way to demonstrate it.

“We had a great reaction from the public. People were genuinely interested in what we had to say.”
