ROCKY the rottweiler needs money for an operation to give him a new lease of life.

The young dog, who is staying at Marina Kennels, Leeds Road, Deighton, shattered his hind leg in a road accident in Bradford on September 20.

Rocky was found lying in agony at the side of a main road. He was taken to Companion Care veterinary surgery in Huddersfield and anaesthetised and treated.

Despite his trauma the courageous canine has since been making friends with staff and vets at Marina. But Rocky will need up to £2,000 to pay for an operation to fix a compound fracture on his back leg.

Chris Whippey, who works at Marina, says: “He can’t put any weight on his leg and he has to drag it behind him.

“But because of the law we can’t do anything other than give him pain relief.

“We can only keep him here for seven days before we have to make a decision.

“Hopefully we can do something, but we would love any contribution so he can get what he needs and then find him a new home.

“The option is amputation, but he’s a young dog and he deserves a better quality of life.

“He’s unbelievably friendly, especially after the terrible things he’s been through. He’s let vets and staff handle him.’’

l On September 22 in a story about Marina Kennels The Examiner said the kennels last year had to put down 1,485 dogs. In fact, most of these 1,485 animals were rehoused.
