A mean thief has stolen a van used by a charity working with pensioners.

The thief stole the Age UK van while it was parked overnight in Halifax.

It is used by the charity in Huddersfield and Halifax to carry out vital jobs for elderly people.

Age UK spokesman Judith Churley said: “The van was stolen from the Claremount area of Halifax. It is a four-year-old white Ford Transit and it had the Hudds Age UK number on it (01484 535994).

“It is used by our staff and contained some folding aluminium ramps used to get wheelchairs up and down stairs.

“The van is used by our handyman who installs handrails, keysafes, helps with deep cleans and large gardening jobs, moves furniture etc.

“Why would someone steal something like that?”

Police are investigating.
