PEOPLE have the chance to find out more about the signs and symptoms of oesophageal and gastric cancer this week.

The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust plans a oesophageal-gastric cancer awareness day on Friday between 10am and 4pm on Russell Street, Halifax.

Oesophageal and gastric cancer occurs in the gullet and stomach. It is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths in the UK, affecting around 16,000 people a year.

Actor John Thaw died from cancer of the oesophagus in 2002.
