BREAST cancer patients are preparing to strut their stuff on the catwalk to mark their amazing recoveries.

About 50 people have signed up to take part in a fashion show organised by the breast care team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust on October 15.

It will be the third year the event has taken place at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, to help inspire and motivate patients throughout their treatment.

Breast care specialist nurse Veronica Allinson, said: “All our models will be new to the catwalk this year and our backstage volunteers are models from previous years, so they can both inspire and help with any nerves on the night.

“The show is primarily all about bringing inspiration and confidence back to our patients who may be going through a difficult time in their lives.

“When they step out in front of their families on the night it is an overwhelming experience they will never forget.”

Local designer shops, hairdressers and beauticians have already come forward to volunteer their services for the show.

Women – and one man – aged 22 to 82 will model a variety of clothing in the show including swimwear, lingerie and bridalwear, and will be escorted down the catwalk by male models from the Louise Morton agency.

Last year’s fashion show was so successful that it was recorded on DVD to help inspire new patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Copies of the event are now handed to every new patient to help inspire them throughout their treatment.

The idea also won the team an innovation award at the hospital’s Celebrating Success event.

Other hospitals across the country are now following in the Trust’s footsteps by organising their own fashion shows involving patients.
