A CHARITY shop in Huddersfield town centre is appealing for more volunteer helpers.

The Cancer Research UK shop at Ramsden Street wants to add to its rota of 24 volunteers, who support shop manager Janet Ryan.

She said: “It would be great if we could expand the workforce as there is always so much to do.

“The shop has a fantastic, fun atmosphere which is largely due to the existing volunteers.”

She said: “Volunteering is a fantastic way to improve your social life and an interesting way to gain valuable work experience.”

Janet said giving four hours a week over the course of the year was worth about £1,000 to the charity in wages saved – enough to pay for eight women to take part in an ovarian cancer screening trial.

Janet said current volunteers range from retired people to students working in the shop as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme projects.
