She has undergone two major heart operations.

But that hasn’t stopped Honley woman Joanne Bray from helping others.

Joanne has not let her serious heart condition hold her back - as she plans to volunteer at Harewood House Half Marathon.

It will be the latest in a series of high-profile charity events she has backed.

Civil servant Joanne, 37, has undergone two gruelling open-heart operations since she was born with a congenital defect, one of which when she was just seven.

But inspirational Joanne has this year spent 270 hours volunteering with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to raise money and awareness for others with heart problems.

Unable to take part in the race herself, Joanne will instead be cheering runners across the line and hand handing out medals and water.

Joanne said: “I am really looking forward to volunteering at the half marathon.

“It is wonderful to see all the participants cross the finish line after completing such a challenge.

“Volunteering at events like these is a really great way to stay active and help raise awareness of important causes.

“I was born with a congenital heart defect and don’t feel many people are aware of these conditions.”

Helen Wright, from the BHF, said: “I would like to thank Joanne for her continued support and enthusiasm at BHF events in Yorkshire.

“Runners will not be able to miss Joanne cheering them over the finish line. She is full of energy and a great asset to our team of volunteers undertaking many different tasks on the day.”

The Harewood Half Marathon will be on February 28, 2016.
