POLICE investigating the death of Elland man Andrew Hickox now believe he was killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Mr Hickox, a 42-year-old builder, was found unconscious with severe head injuries in Lower Friargate in York at 1.15am last Sunday.

He died on Thursday morning in York District Hospital without regaining consciousness.

A post-mortem has revealed his only injury was a fractured skull.

Det Sgt John Roberts, who is leading an inquiry into the death, said the injuries were consistent with him being struck by a car.

But an assault could not be completely ruled out, he said.
