A LORRY driver was injured after his vehicle overturned following a collision with a car on the M62 this morning.

The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway near junction 24 (Ainley Top) at 5.50am.

The lorry driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with neck and back injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Fire crews from Brighouse, Huddersfield, Elland and the technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton attended.

The motorway was initially closed in both directions due to the impact causing a section of concrete in the central reservation to spray onto the opposite carriageway. It re-opened westbound shortly after 7am.

The affected eastbound stretch re-opened at 10.30am after the lorry was recovered.
