ARSONISTS wired up a car to catch fire in a quiet residential street in Huddersfield.

Householders living at Broomfield Road, Marsh, heard a bang when the fuel tank in the Ford Escort exploded just after 8pm on Saturday night.

It is thought the vehicle had been used in a burglary in Huddersfield the previous night and the culprits were attempting to destroy evidence.

Police removed the vehicle for forensic examination.

* A blaze was started in a disused garage on Saturday night.

Fire crews were called to the former car repair workshop at Union Street at about 7.10pm.

A small wooden office within the large works was destroyed.

FAULTY stereo wiring wrecked a car.

The blaze broke out in a Vauxhall Corsa travelling down New Hey Road, Marsh, at about 11.45pm on Saturday night .

Wiring running through a door set on fire, leading to a serious blaze which gutted the vehicle.

The male driver and female occupant escaped unharmed.
