A MAN was left abandoned by the roadside after thieves roared off in his car.

The 58-year-old victim from Skelmanthorpe had advertised his black Volvo 480 for sale in a car magazine.

Two men rang and said they were travelling over from Leeds and were interested in buying it.

They arrived at his home at 5.30pm on Thursday in a green Ford Mondeo and he took them out for a test drive.

When they reached Coalpit Lane in Shelley one of the men asked to have a go at driving. The owner got out and started to walk around the car.

But the thief slid over from the passenger seat and sped off. The owner went to a nearby house and raised the alarm. Police found the Ford Mondeo had been stolen from Ferrybridge.

The Volvo, registration G276 LKH, is still missing.

Both thieves are white and in their 20s. One had a narrow face, short brown hair and wore a blue top. His accomplice was stocky.
