MORE than a tonne of cardboard was set on fire at a Mirfield factory last night. Workers at John Cotton Jute at Nunbrook Mills of Huddersfield Road raised the alarm at 2.29am today. A section of jute in a machine had set on fire and workers had removed the section. About a dozen workers went on their break but the heat from the jute spread to a pile of cardboard, measuring 50m by 30m, which caught fire. No-one was injured in the incident.
