CARE workers called off a 24-hour strike due to be held today. Further talks are to be held over the wages dispute involving 29 sheltered housing staff at Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. The workers are resident on site to help elderly and vulnerable people who live in sheltered accommodation. Union leaders are pressing for another £1 on top of their £7 an hour pay. Cath McGurk, a Unison steward, said: "We have suspended the industrial action for 21 days to allow time for more negotiations." A spokeswoman for Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing said: "We will have more talks in an attempt to resolve this."
