GROUPS throughout the Huddersfield area organised special coffee mornings as part of a charity's "World's Biggest Coffee Morning" event.

Among them was Huddersfield Rotary Club, holding its first coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

The event was held at the home of president Judith Charlesworth, in Haughs Road, Quarmby.

Coffee, tea and biscuits were served and people were invited to make a donation.

Parents stayed for a coffee morning after attending family assembly at St John's Golcar Junior and Infant School.

Coffee was sold for 50p and a cake stall and raffle were held.

Overall, the school generated £200 for the charity.

Lydgate School, New Mill, staged its 12th coffee morning for the charity.

The event was very well attended and is expected to have made about £300.

Pupils took part in the coffee morning, by baking cakes, serving and entertaining visitors.

A tombola, plant stall, cake stall, raffle and competition to win a Peugeot 205 were held.

Berry Brow Infant School raised £300 at its coffee morning, organised by school co-ordinator Lynsey Robshaw.

Thousands of coffee mornings were held throughout the country, as part Macmillan Cancer Relief's major fundraising event.
