A HUDDERSFIELD shop was closed today after its parent company ran into financial trouble.

The Computer Shop on the Piazza in the town centre is among 78 outlets shut by the owners of the Time and Tiny computer brands.

All of the directors of Granville Technology Group, Britain's largest computer manufacturer, are reported to have resigned, apart from its part-time chairman.

Granville, which employs 1,100 workers and has a factory in Burnley, was formerly known as Time Group and three years ago acquired Tiny Computers out of administration.

There are more than 2m Tiny personal computers and laptops in UK homes as well as thousands of Time computers in schools, colleges and universities.

Granville sells its products through 78 stores, called The Computer Shop, as well as through other outlets such as Tesco, Asda and Woolworth's.

A sign on the door of the Huddersfield shop said the store was closed for a stock-take.
