A FINANCIAL incentive has been offered to West Yorkshire residents in two pilot areas who help increase recycling in the coming year.

Residents who live in selected areas of Beeston and Wetherby, who increase the amount of household waste they recycle and reduce the amount the level of ordinary rubbish, will have the chance to win prizes between £100 and £1,000 in cash.

The pilot is part of a national scheme being funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Around 16,000 households in Beeston and Wetherby along with Boston Spa, Bramham, Clifford and Walton, will take part in the scheme.

It aims to encourage people to increase the amount of recyclable waste in their green bins. It also encourages them to reduce the amount of waste in their black bins and present their green wheeled bins on every occasion throughout the pilot project.
