A 17-year-old youth was due in court today after a crash drama in Newsome.

The Dewsbury teenager and a 37-year-old man from Primrose Hill had to be cut free by firefighters after a Ford Escort car plunged from the steep lane up to Castle Hill down a banking onto Lumb Lane at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

The car's roof was crushed as it rolled over.

The 37-year-old man is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary suffering from multiple injuries.

The 17-year-old has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and other motoring offences.

He was due to appear before Huddersfield Magistrates today.
