A MAN has been praised for his photographic skills.
David Speight's photo of Almondbury's Castle Hill beat 100 entries on an international website, including photos of the Taj Mahal in India and The Vatican.
Mr Speight said: "I was absolutely amazed when I found out I had won.
"I had not really shown my photographs anywhere else before this, so it was a real shock that my picture of Castle Hill was voted the best, especially when I was competing against photos such as the Taj Mahal and The Vatican."
Mr Speight, 34, of Birstall, is hoping to develop his hobby into something more permanent and, hopefully, one day, make a living out of his favourite pastime.
He said: "My love of photography started about 10 years ago.
"I have always been a keen angler and I took my camera with me to take pictures of the fish I had caught.
"When I looked at the pictures I really didn't like them. That gave me the drive to learn to take better pictures."
The website is visited by fellow photographers every day.
They are able to rate and make comments on each other's work.
Mr Speight added: "Other photos I have posted on the website since then have gone straight to the top of the ratings table.
"I am taken aback by how successful my work has become."
