Cat blamed for Bradley Road smash as van knocks over lamppost

Driver swerved to avoid animal and demolished the lamppost

A van driver swerved to avoid a cat and smashed into a lamppost.

The driver of the white Renault van was coming up Bradley Road, Bradley, just before the junction with Alandale Road, when the animal ran out in front of him.

He swerved and demolished the lamppost before his van came to a stop sideways on blocking the Bradley Bar-bound side of the road.

The accident happened at around 9.40am on Friday.

A passing motorist stopped to help before police and ambulance crews arrived.

The driver told the Examiner he was doing about 10mph when the cat ran out in front of him. It is believed the driver suffered a minor hand injury and did not need hospital treatment.
