Another children’s TV star is to switch on Huddersfield’s Christmas lights.

Dr Ranj, who stars in the CBeebies show Get Well Soon, will join other entertainers for the big switch-on on November 15.

It is the third year in a row that civic officials have turned to the popular children’s channel for a celebrity to do the Christmas honours.

In 2012 they invited Mr Bloom while last year it was Sid Sloane.

Dr Ranj is the co-creator and presenter of the pioneering CBeebies’ show Get Well Soon, and also has a kids’ health segment on ITV This Morning.

Ranj Singh trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals School of Medicine in London and qualified in 2003 with degrees in Medicine and Pharmacology. Since then he has worked in a variety of adult and paediatric specialities, in a range of district general and teaching hospitals. His interest in Paediatrics led to him specialising in this field, and in 2007 he became a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

He also developed a media role and is a regular on TV. He is the only TV doctor who specialises in children, young people and families.

Dr Ranj will ensure a lively start to the festive season when he heads of the entertainment in Huddersfield.

Taking place on The Piazza in Huddersfield town centre from 4pm, the event starts with music to get people into the festive mood.

The Pulse1 Roadshow will be live on stage throughout the event, entertaining the crowds with games and music and introducing guests including Kirklees College singers and dancers, who will be entertaining the crowd from 5pm.

Other special guests include, Huddersfield’s Town Crier Vic Watson, and Huddersfield Town’s popular mascot Terry the Terrier.

Clr Peter McBride, Cabinet Member for Investment and Regeneration for Kirklees Council, said; “The Christmas Light Switch signals the start of Christmas for many in Huddersfield. Last year’s switch on was a huge success, drawing more people than ever into the town centre. This year will be even better.

“We’re delighted to be working once again with Kirklees College on the event as well as welcoming back the Lawrence Batley Theatre. We have an excellent line up of special guests and entertainers this year – there really is something for everyone. The warm atmosphere and entertainment from local talent will remind everyone why Kirklees is such a great place to live”.
