CENTENARIAN Ivy Clegg celebrated her 100th birthday in style.

The lifelong Huddersfield resident marked her landmark birthday with friends during the special event at Huddersfield Town Hall.

She celebrated with more than 40 members of the Darby and Joan Over 60s club, which is based there.

Ivy was sung to as she was presented with a birthday cake and presents, including a gold brooch and flowers.

Carol Johnson, WRVS service manager for the group, said: “Ivy really enjoyed herself. She said it was the best birthday she’d had in a while.”

Ivy, who has one son and a grandson, also celebrated the milestone with a party with family and friends at Pennine Manor Hotel.

And there were double celebrations during the Town Hall event as one of the social group’s volunteers was honoured.

Irene Shaw was presented with a special plaque to celebrate her 27 years of service.

Irene, from Dalton, never misses the group’s weekly meetings and helps with everything, from registration to the raffle and making teas.

Carol added: “She’s very dedicated and I hope I last as long as her!”
