STAFF at The Three Acres in Shelley were today celebrating winning the title of Yorkshire Dining Pub Of The Year 2004.

It is the second time the 34-year-old restaurant has won the award given by The Good Pub Guide. The last time was in 2000.

The independent guide features more than 5,000 entries, which are updated each year.

Mr Brian Orme, one of three licensees, said the award was great news.

"It makes all the hard work by the staff worthwhile," he said.

"I would like to think we have been awarded it for the consistency and the quality of our food, our reasonably imaginative menu and the fact that we always use fresh ingredients."

The guide says: "This very well-run former coaching inn is somewhere for a special occasion, and while there are customers who drop in for a pint by the bar counter, most people come to enjoy the excellent food or stay overnight.

"The lounge bar has a relaxed atmosphere, button-back leather sofas, old prints and so forth. To be sure of a place, it's best to book."
